Naika Foroutan ist in einem ausführlichen Interview im Deutschlandfunk 
über die Pluralisierung der deutschen Gesellschaft in der neuen Reihe 
„Wehrhafte Demokratie“ zu hören. „Schon jetzt habe in Deutschland jede 
zweite Person unter zehn Jahren einen migrantischen Hintergrund, sagt 
Integrationsforscherin Naika Foroutan. Die wehrhafte Demokratie werde 
verletzlich, wenn sich nicht alle in der Gesellschaft vertreten sähen.

Naika Foroutan is featured in an extensive interview on Deutschlandfunk
about the pluralization of German society in the new series „Fortified Democracy”. 
„Every second person in Germany under the age of ten has a migrant background, 
says integration researcher Naika Foroutan. Fortified democracy will be vulnerable

Seán King (Migration and the Welfare State) was accepted for the presentation of his paper 
„States of a welfare feather regulating flocking together? An investigation of the migration-
welfare state nexus across Western countries“ at the Analytical Sociology conference (INAS) 
in Princeton (New Jersey), 8th-9th June.

Emily Frank (Migration und Sozialstaat) nimmt an der IMISCOE-Konferenz vom 
3. bis 6. Juli in Warschau teil. Das von Gökçe Yurdakul organisierte Panel trägt 
den Titel „Precarious Migrants and Intersectional Approaches to Exclusion”. Emily 
stellt ihr Paper „Autonomy & Administrative Burden: Administrative Barriers

Tina Nobis und Lara Kronenbitter haben letzten Mittwoch in Frankfurt beim Deutschen 
Olympischen Sportbund auf einer Inhouse-Veranstaltung einen Vortrag zu Rassismus im 
Sport gehalten haben, basierend auf internationalen Forschungsergebnissen und mit 
Bezugnahme zum eigenen Verständnis des Rassismusbegriffs.

Tina Nobis and Lara Kronenbitter gave a lecture on racism in sports last Wednesday 
in Frankfurt at the German Olympic Sports Confederation at an in-house event on racism 
in sport; based on international research results and with reference to their own understanding 
of the concept of racism.

Save the date: Anna Kortweg und Sarah Scuzarello, beide Visiting Scholars am
 BIM im Juni, werden auf Initiative von Gökçe am 5. Juni von 15:00 bis 17:00 am BIM 
ein gemeinsames Seminar zum Thema „Writing for Journals“ halten. Scuzarello ist 
Mitherausgeberin von JEMS (Journal or Ethnic and Migration Studies), einem der

BIM goes Provinz! Unter dem Titel „Dunkeldeutschland” gibt es am 19.3. Lesung
und Gespräch mit Katharina Warda, moderiert von Daniel Kubiak, ab 16 Uhr im 
Kulturbahnhof Biesenthal. Katharina Warda ist Soziologin und Kulturwissenschaftlerin. 
Sie beschäftigt sich mit der Verschränkung von Rassismus, Ostdeutschsein und 
Klassismus aus einer autoethnografischen Perspektive. Mit Publikumsdiskussion.

BIM goes Province! Under the title "Dunkeldeutschland" (Dark Germany), there's a reading
and discussion with Katharina Warda, moderated by Daniel Kubiak, from 4 p.m. at the
Kulturbahnhof Biesenthal. Katharina Warda is a sociologist and cultural scientist and concerned 
with the intertwining of racism, East Germanness and classism from an autoethnographic

Maximilian Sprengholz und Zerrin Salikutlik waren gemeinsam mit Maisha Auma 
beim Next Grand Challenge Forum der BUA. Sie haben dort ihren Projektvorschlag 
„Intersektionale Dekolonialitätsforschung: Perspektiven und Praktiken als zukünftige 
Paradigmen der inter- und transdisziplinären Forschung“ vorgestellt; daran hat auch
 Fatima El-Sayed mitgearbeitet. 


Maximilian Sprengholz and Zerrin Salikutlik were, together with Maisha Auma, at the 
Next Grand Challenge Forum of the BUA. There they presented their project proposal 
"Intersectional decoloniality research: perspectives and practices as future paradigms 
of inter- and transdisciplinary research"; Fatima El-Sayed collaborated.

Neue Gastwissenschaftlerin am BIM ist Beate Baumann, Professorin 
für „Deutsche Sprache und Übersetzung“ an der Universität Catania. Eine von Baumanns Forschungsschwerpunkten ist der Themenkomplex 
Mehrsprachigkeit, Kreativität und Schreiben. Baumann ist Mitgründerin des Instituits
 Polyphonie. Am BIM möchte sie sich vor allem mit Grundfragen der Postmigration 
beschäftigen. 

New visiting scholar at the BIM is Beate Baumann, professor of "German 
Language and Translation" at the University of Catania. Welcome! One of 
Baumann's main research interests is the topic of Multilingualism, Creativity 
and Writing. Baumann is co-founder of the Instituit Polyphony. At the BIM she's
 interested in basics issues of postmigration.

On May 25-26, 2023, a conference for young scientists will be held 
in Münster. The goal is to better understand racism as a challenge for the

veröffentlicht. Es ist die erste empirische Systematisierung (ca. 24.000 Artikel zu "Clans") der medialen 
Aufarbeitung von "Clans" & "Arabischen Großfamilien" zwischen 2010 und 2020.

Özgür Özvatan, Bastian Neuhauser and Gökçe Yurdakul have just published the highly interesting 
article "The 'Arab Clans' Discourse: Narrating Racialization, Kinship and Crime in the German Media".
It is the first empirical systematization (approx. 24,000 articles on "clans") of the medial reappraisal of 
"clans" & "Arab extended families" between 2010 and 2020.

Nach sieben Jahren am BIM – anfangs als studentische Hilfskraft, dann als wissenschaftliche 
Mitarbeiterin und Lehrende – verlässt Katarina Stjepandić, mit der Doktorarbeit im Gepäck, 
das Institut. Ab Mitte April wird sie für die Integrations- und Antirassismusbeauftragte Reem 
Alabali-Radovan im Bundeskanzleramt arbeiten. Noch genauer: Im Referat zur Bekämpfung 
von Rassismus und für die Unterstützung Betroffener von rechter und rassistischer Gewalt 
unter der Leitung von Yasemin Schooman. Wir wünschen alles Gute für die Zukunft!

After 7 years at the BIM – initially as a student assistant, then as a scientific – 
Katarina Stjepandić leaves the institute with her doctoral thesis in tow. From mid-April, she will be working for the integration and anti-racism 
officer Reem Alabali-Radovan at the Federal Chancellery. More specifically, in the unit 
for combating racism and for the support of victims of right-wing and racist violence
headed by Yasemin Schooman. We wish all the best for the future!
