Conference: „Navigating the Changing Times of Gender, Sexuality, and Migration in Europe”

Migrationspolitik, wie sie allgemein verstanden und gestaltet wird, verstärkt die Heteronormativität in Europa und verdrängt die Erfahrungen von queeren Migrant*innen, Geflüchteten, Asylbewerber*innen und Menschen ohne Papiere. Mit queerer Migration befasst sich ein neuer Wissenschaftszweig, der die zentrale Rolle von Gender und Sexualität als wichtige soziale Kategorien in der Migrationspolitik und den Grenzkontrollregimen aufzeigt. Forscher*innen und Aktivist*innen weisen nach, wie LGBTQ- und Frauenrechtsdiskurse instrumentalisiert wurden, um eine illiberale Politik gegen Migrant*innen und andere rassifizierte Gruppen in Europa voranzutreiben.
Angesichts zunehmender politischer Polarisierung, von Bewegungen, die Rechte von Menschen infrage stellen, und der Marginalisierung der Betroffenen will diese Konferenz Forscher*innen, Künstler*innen und Aktivist*innen zusammenbringen. An zwei Tagen wird darüber debattiert, wie queere und femini-stische Interventionen das alltägliche Leben und die Darstellung von Migration, Vertreibung und Exil aus einer intersektionalen und vergleichenden Perspektive beeinflussen können.

The mainstream conception of migration reinforces heteronormativity and silences the experiences of queer migrants, refugees, asylum-seekers, and undocumented people in Europe. The emerging scholarship on queer migration has shown the central role of gender and sexuality in migration politics and border control regimes. Researchers and activists have also revealed the ways in which LGBTQ and women’s rights discourse have been instrumentalized to advance illiberal politics against migrants and other racialized groups in Europe. In the face of increasing political polarization, anti-rights movements, and political marginalization, this conference aims to bring together researchers, artists, and activists to discuss how queer and feminist interventions could inform the everyday life and representation of migration, displacement, and exile from an intersectional and comparative perspective.
