National Educational Panel Study (NEPS), sub-study on the language skills of pupils with a migrant background

Project description

The National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) analyses educational processes and skills development from early childhood to adulthood on a longitudinal basis.

Within the educational panel, there is a separate perspective on the ‘educational acquisition of persons with a migration background in the life course’, which focuses on the recording of educationally relevant migration-specific characteristics. One focus on the lifelong educational process is the recording of pupils' knowledge and skills in the language of their parents' country of origin, as characteristics of first and second language acquisition are key explanatory dimensions for educational and labour market success. Various other focal points are family language/language of origin and language use in different contexts.
