Flora Jansen is a student assistant in the department "Migration in Global Perspective" at the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research and at the Institute of European Ethnology.
In her master's project "CONTRADICTING VIOLENCE - An Ethnographic Approach to Detention for Deportation in Germany," she focused on negotiations around and responses to violence and criminality, as well as their contradictions and the conditions under which it is possible to oppose violence. She integrates approaches from migration research, border regime studies, and critical criminology in her work.
From 2023 to 2024, Flora Jansen worked as a student assistant in the research project "Inventory and Innovation. Migration as a Prism of the Crises of Our Time."From 2019 to 2022, she studied Ethnology and Geography at Heidelberg University, focusing on the manifestations of the border regime at the Greek-Turkish EU external borders. Since October 2022, she has been studying for a master's degree in "Ethnography: Theory – Practice – Critique" at Humboldt University.
