Profile

Sowmya Maheswaran is doing her doctorate at the Institute of European Ethnology at Humboldt University in Berlin and is a Hans Böckler Foundation doctoral scholar. Her dissertation deals with the political subjectivation of dissidents and their cultures of resistance in contexts of violence at the intersection of global and political anthropology.

Postcolonial negotiations of racism, nationalism and migration in war and post-war situations form central lines of investigation. The ethnographic focus of her current research is on Tamil conflicts and struggles in Sri Lanka and related transnational diaspora movements.
