Laura Hertner works as a research assistant on the project "Transnational Perspectives on Migration and Integration" (TRANSMIT). 


In addition to her work in the ‘Migration, Mental and Physical Health and Health Promotion’ department at BIM, she is a doctoral student in the ‘Transcultural Psychiatry’ working group at the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Campus Mitte.
 
She conducts both qualitative and quantitative research. Her research focuses include the effects of factors related to (refugee) migration on mental health, including substance use, and barriers to health services for people with a migration background.

Laura Hertner completed her studies in psychology at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen.
As part of her master's thesis, she conducted a qualitative interview study on the definition of ‘psychosocial practice’ in working with refugees, different interpretations of the concept and areas of tension.
