Profile



Özgür Özvatan is a political scientist and sociologist. He is deputy head of the Department of Integration Research and Social Policy and the Department of Basic Issues of Integration and Migration at the Berlin Institute for Empirical Research on Integration and Migration.

He is also the coordinator of the Immigration Research Network of the Council for European Studies (CES) at Columbia University and was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Melbourne.

Özvatan received his PhD from the Berlin Graduate School of Social Sciences (BGSS) in 2020 with the dissertation "From Ethnonational to Transnational Homeland and back? Storytelling, Boundaries and Collective Learning in the (Un)Making of Turkish-German Belonging" summa cum laude.
