Dr. Anne-Kathrin Will is an associate member of BIM's department Integration, Social Networks and Cultural Lifestyles.

From 2019-2022, she conducted research in statistical offices in the DFG research project „Der Migrationshintergrund – Herstellung und gesellschaftliche Realität einer wissenschaftlichen Kategorie“ (The migration background – production and social reality of a scientific category) and conducted a large number of interviews about what people understand by migration background, whether they use this term and if so, for whom.

Previously, she worked at the DeZIM Institute and in different contexts of scientific policy advice in the fields of integration, vocational training and equality. Her PhD in medical anthropology, published in 2010, focused on granting a right of residence to Bosnian traumatized refugees in Berlin (http://edoc.hu-berlin.de/18452/16716).

She teaches at the Humboldt University in Berlin, the Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg, and the University of Applied Sciences in Neubrandenburg and researches in particular on humanitarian residence granting in Germany, operationalization of migration background, discourses of belonging, and representation of minorities.
