PROFIL
Andreas Stoiber is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. His research focuses on the socio-material knowledge practices of Space-Eye members and their use of satellite and maritime surveillance to support civil search and rescue (SAR) missions in the Central Mediterranean by combining approaches from anthropology, science and technology studies (STS), and border studies. His previous publications include a chapter (2025) on Space-Eye’s members voluntary coding work as an attempt to reconcile the realities and rhythms of their (in)organic collaborators of optical satellites, deep learning algorithms, and ships.
