Dr. Syed Ibrahim

Profile 🖉

Dr. Syed Ibrahim, an Indian scholar and Germanist, has been obsessed with the topics of human crowds and migration since several decades. In his doctoral research on crowds based on Elias Canetti’s works, he analysed various forms of crowds across the world, whereby a specific focus was laid on the crowds in India, passing through its diverse geographical, linguistic, cultural, spiritual and political spheres of life. While professionally engaging himself as the director of the German language and cultural institute Goethe-Zentrum and German Honorary Consul in the south Indian state of Kerala, he still lives his passion for his academic pursuit by doing comparative studies on the migration policies in India and Germany. With its huge size and population of several languages, vast cultural, social and religious diversity, India offers him the right place to explore the significance of crowds as an ever-moving force of social, demographic, economic and political changes. With India now becoming a strong partner for Germany in the area of migration of skilled professionals and with thousands of youngsters from Kerala flooding to the Goethe-Zentrum and other German language institutes, Dr. Syed Ibrahim plays a very crucial role in facilitating an ethically correct and fair migration of people from India to Germany, where his formidable knowledge on crowds and migration provides him the required foundation to be a strong bridge of bilateral collaboration between these two nations.
