Dr. Haci Cevik erhält den Voltaire-Preis der Universität Potsdam für sein engagiertes Eintreten für Wissenschaftsfreiheit, gesellschaftlichen Dialog und freie Meinungsäußerung. Der Politikwissenschaftler, derzeit Einstein-Fellow am Berliner Institut für empirische Integrations- und Migrationsforschung (BIM), forscht zu ethnischer Politik, Migration, Identität und Zugehörigkeit und macht dabei marginalisierte Perspektiven sichtbar, insbesondere kurdische und syrische Communities. Seine Arbeiten stellen dominante Narrative infrage und haben ihn zu einer prägenden Stimme in Debatten über Nationalismus, Ethnopolitik und Zwangsmigration gemacht. Besonders gewürdigt wird sein Mut, diese Themen auch in einem politisch repressiven Kontext wie der Türkei öffentlich zu vertreten. Ceviks Wirken verbinde wissenschaftliche Exzellenz mit gesellschaftlicher Verantwortung und stärke demokratische Werte, so Prof. Dr. Aileen Edele, Direktorin des BIM, in ihrer Laudatio.
Dr. Haci Cevik receives the Voltaire Prize from the University of Potsdam for his dedicated advocacy for academic freedom, social dialogue, and freedom of expression. The political scientist, currently an Einstein Fellow at the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM), conducts research on ethnic politics, migration, identity, and belonging, highlighting marginalized perspectives, particularly those of Kurdish and Syrian communities. His work challenges dominant narratives and has made him an influential voice in debates on nationalism, ethnic politics, and forced migration. His courage in publicly addressing these issues even in a politically repressive context such as Turkey is particularly noteworthy. Cevik's work combines scientific excellence with social responsibility and strengthens democratic values, said Prof. Dr. Aileen Edele, Director of the BIM, in her laudatory speech.
