Prof. Dr. Ulrike Burrmann has been a university professor and head of the Department of Integration, Sports and Soccer at BIM in 2021. Previously, Ulrike Burrmann worked for 12 years as a university professor and head of the Department of Development and Learning at the Institute of Sport and Sport Science at TU Dortmund University.

Ulrike Burrmann received her doctorate in 2001 on the topic of "Learning and development in science education - an analysis of the theories of Vygotsky and Piaget and two teaching programs" at the University of Potsdam. She habilitated cumulatively in 2006 on the topic "Sport-related socialization of adolescents in synchronous and diachronic perspective" also at the University of Potsdam.

From 1998 to 2007, Ulrike Burrmann worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Sport Science under Prof. Dr. Jürgen Baur at the University of Potsdam. From 2004 to 2006, she held a substitute professorship for sports education and sports sociology at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.

Ulrike Burrmann studied psychology (Diplom) at the University of Leipzig and specialized in educational psychology. During her doctoral studies, she undertook research stays of several months at King' s College London School of Education.

Her research can be assigned to the areas of sport, integration and migration; sport-related socialization of adolescents; voluntary and honorary engagement in sport; and sport and social inequality.

Within this framework, the following research projects and scientific evaluation studies, among others, have been or are being carried out:

  • Research project "Civic Engagement in Rural Areas of the New Federal States" (2021-2024, together with Sebastian Braun, BMEL).
  • Research project "Organized sport and social capital - revisited" (2017-2018, together with Sebastian Braun and Michael Mutz)
  • Research project "Sportive Orientierungen und Körperkulturen von jugendlichen Migrantinnen und Migranten im Spannungsfeld von Schule und Lebenswelt" (2014-2017, together with Michael Meuser and Jörg Thiele, DFG)
  • Research project "Sport club-related socialization of young people with a migration background" (2010-2012, BISp)
  • Evaluation study "Orientation through Sport" (2016-2017, together with Nils Neuber, dsj/BAMF).
  • Evaluation study "Integration through Sport" (2013, together with Sebastian Braun and Michael Mutz, DOSB/BAMF)
