Save the Date: Berlin Lecture - Beats across Borders

13.12.2018 at 20:30

Music and Movement in the 21st Century:

In this hybrid musical lecture, cultural historian Josh Kun will use music to explore the politics of 21st century migration. Based on his research in Berlin, London, Lampedusa, Tijuana, and Los Angeles, Kun has been studying how forced movement across borders is changing the way the world sounds. Music can be a longing for home and a platform for politics, and also a tool for waging cultural battles of recognition and identity in the face of an increasingly policed and walled world. He will be joined by the musicians Farahnaz Hatam, Milad Khawam, Abdallah RahhalDJ Ghanaian Stallion and the group BSMG.

Josh Kun is Director of the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California, where he is Professor of Communication and American Studies and Ethnicity, and the holder of the Chair in Cross-Cultural Communication.

This event takes place in English.
