"A Vote Against Me". Poles in Post-Brexit-Vote Britain

02.05.2017 at 17:00

What does it mean to be a migrant? What is the role of the media? How are exclusion and inclusion narrated? Professor Nowicka presents new research results about Polish migrants in London and Birmingham, their opinions on the Brexit vote and their positions in Britain. To the discussion of her empirical data, she introduces the notion of cultural precariat as a widespread condition of migrants in Europe.

Magdalena Nowicka is professor at the Institute of Social Sciences and member of the Berlin Institute for Integration and Migration Research (BIM), both at Humboldt-Universität. Her publications include The Ashgate Research Companion to Cosmopolitanism (edited with Maria Rovisco, 2011) and numerous articles on migration, transnationalism, conviviality, diversity, racism and cosmopolitanism.

Everyone is welcome to attend.
